Ethiopian Government to Hand Over 51,229 Condominium Houses to Residents of Addis Ababa

March 6, 2019, Addis Ababa Housing Agency is holding a draw to transfer 51,229 housing units that were built through a program of developing condominium houses in the city.

The transfer will be made through a lottery draw but the details of this process have not been disclosed.

The condominium units are of 2 different sizes.

In a report made by the Addis Ababa City Administration, 32,653 condominium houses of the size 20x80 and 18,576 of the size 40x60 will be transferred to all those registered for the draw and win.

The same report stated that 5% of the 20/80 condominium houses are for the disabled, 20% will be for civil or government workers and 30% will be for female residents.

The financial requirement for the lottery draw will be for those who registered with savings showing at least 40% of the estimated condominium cost during the time of registration.

According to the administration's calculations, those who are receiving a 1 bedroom condominium house are paying 65,050 ETB or 2,306 USD according to current foreign exchange rates.

For 2 bedrooms, residents will pay 100,000 ETB or 3,703 USD and for the 3 bedrooms the price will be 154, 000 ETB or 5,703 USD.

The remaining balance will be paid in installments.
