On April 1999, Abyssinia Flight Services became the first certified air charter company in Ethiopia.

During the last 16 years, it has witnessed the impact it made in the economic and social advancement of Ethiopia by making areas accessible that otherwise had no ground mode of transport let alone air service.

For years the service has proved to be a lifeline in response to the drought situation in the country transporting hundreds of aid workers and relief personnel to many parts of the affected areas of Ethiopia.

The service has also been instrumental in transporting several potential investors to many parts of the country, as well as, flying for companies engaged in oil exploration, geophysical survey, and aerial photography.

Timely response to customers in need of medical evacuation, is also provided.

The private pilot training school and general aviation services was established in 2006, because there is only one flying school in the country which is mainly preoccupied with the training of company pilots, therefore Abyssinia set up an affordable alternative private pilot training school.

Pilot Training School

Abyssinian Flight Services Pilot Training School(AFS - PTS) is the only privately owned flying school in Ethiopia established 14 Years ago, in 2006.

The school is authorized by Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) to train pilots for the following License and Ratings:

1: Private Pilot License

2: Commercial Pilot License

3: Instrument Rating and

4: Multi-engine Rating

5: Instructor Rating

Probably one of the biggest achievements of the past fourteen years of Abyssinian Flight Services existence is the establishing of the first and only private Pilot Training school in Ethiopia.

It has trained and graduated several pilots with both PPL (Private Pilot License) and CPL (Commercial Pilot License) with MR(Multi-Engine Ratings).

Currently it operates 5 Thielert engine equipped Cessna 172, 1 Diamond DA40 single engine and 2 Diamond DA42NG Multi-Engine aircraft in our flight training school.

What makes these aircraft special is the fact that they operate on the less expensive and readily available Jet A1 fuel while consuming less than 50% compared to the same size Avgas engines.

Recently they added DIA Austro engine equipped Twin Diamond DA42NG aircraft to our fleet for use in Multi-engine training.

The state-of-the-art Garmin G1000 DA42NG Glass Cockpit and its single engine siblings are all fully equipped with the latest instrumentation to train our student pilots to the highest standards of professionalism.

The Pilot Training School uses Cessna 172, Diamond DA 40 single engine aircraft and Diamond DA42 Twin star for multi-engine rating.
